چکیده

Abstract. We have used empirical models for electric potentials and the magnetic fields both in space on ground to obtain maps of height-integrated Pedersen Hall ionospheric conductivities at high latitudes. This calculation required use “curl-free” “divergence-free” components currents, with former obtained from that are a model field-aligned currents. The second component is equivalent current, usually associated derived ground-level field. Conductances were calculated varying combinations interplanetary field (IMF) magnitude orientation angle, as well dipole tilt angle. results show reversing sign Y IMF produces substantially different conductivity patterns. largest dawn side upward, Region 2 Low strengths Harang discontinuity lead inconclusive near midnight. Comparison of methods to determine auroral ionospheric conductances using ground-based optical and riometer data

Ground-based images of auroral optical emissions and cosmic radio noise absorption provide information on particle precipitation which enhances ionospheric conductances. Knowledge of this conductance field is important to understand the current systems associated with auroral features. Three methods of using ground-based optical and riometer data to estimate ionospheric conductances in the auro...

Statistical relationships between cosmic radio noise absorption and ionospheric electrical conductances in the auroral zone

[1] Statistical models expressing the Hall and Pedersen conductances and their ratio as functions of cosmic noise absorption (CNA) are derived for five intervals of magnetic local time (MLT). The models are based on simultaneous measurements of electron densities from the European Incoherent Scatter UHF radar at Tromsø (69.6 N, 19.2 E) and absorption from the imaging riometer at Kilpisjärvi (69...

Testing of the 4SM Method in the Gulf of California Suggests Field Data Are not Needed to Derive Satellite Bathymetry

Satellite-derived bathymetry methods over coastal areas were developed to deliver basic and useful bathymetry information. However, the process is not straightforward, the main limitation being the need for field data. The Self-calibrated Spectral Supervised Shallow-water Modeler (4SM) method was tested to obtain coastal bathymetry without the use of any field data. Using Landsat-8 multispectra...

Effects of seasonal changes in the ionospheric conductances on magnetospheric fieldaligned currents

[1] Through the seasons of the year, the ionospheric potential doesn’t change significantly, while the solar driven conductance changes dramatically. This means that the magnetospherically driven field-aligned currents must be significantly reduced in the winter hemisphere and enhanced in the summer hemisphere. It is shown that, if this simplistic view of the conductance is used, the ratio betw...

Method to derive ocean absorption coefficients from remote-sensing reflectance.

A method to derive in-water absorption coefficients from total remote-sensing reflectance (ratio of the upwelling radiance to the downwelling irradiance above the surface) analytically is presented. For measurements made in the Gulf of Mexico and Monterey Bay, with concentrations of chlorophyll-a ranging from 0.07 to 50 mg/m(3), comparisons are made for the total absorption coefficients derived...
